OUR MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS.....
If you have a question that is not listed here please get in touch!
COFFEE v DESSERT PORTIONS?
Coffee Portions - are 1/2 the size of a dessert portion i.e. 1" x 1" x the height of the cake.
Dessert Portions - are roughly 1" x 2" x the height of the cake.
If your event includes a three-course meal, coffee portions are usually ample. If serving the cake as a course on its own, dessert portions are advised.
HOW DOES THE PRICING WORK?
We put in an immense amount of care and attention in to each cake we create. Prices are determined by the complexity of the design, the number of servings and number of tiers and hours it will take to create. Therefore cakes that are difficult, an unusual shape or require a lot of handmade details, painting, sculpting, sugar flowers, silver or gold leaf will be more expensive than a simpler design.
WHEN SHOULD I BOOK MY CAKE?
Wedding cakes - a minimum 4-6 weeks notice is preferable.
However, just check with us and we may be able to fit you in on short notice.
Birthday, Corporate, Other occasions - a minimum of 2-4 weeks notice is preferable.
DO YOU MAKE GLUTEN OR DAIRY FREE CAKES?
Sorry we don't. Although we attempt to accommodate all needs, Cakes by Renee would prefer to recommend specialty suppliers to meet the stringent standards required by allergy sufferers.
Should I USE FRESH OR SUGAR FLOWERS?
We can accommodate both options but this really comes down to personal taste. We don’t mix the two types on the same cake as the moisture from fresh flowers can melt the sugar icing.
Sugar flowers are generally more expensive as they are handmade and are not restricted to seasons.
DO YOU DELIVER TO FAR, FAR AWAY PLACES?
Within South East Queensland region. Delivery is a minimum of $50 and scaled based on distance. Delivery fees include tolls, set up and any additional time to attach any client provided items (i.e. flowers, toppers etc).
CAN I PICK UP MY CAKE?
Yes! However, we don't recommend it for multi-tiered or 3D cakes. These cakes in particular are tricky business and are surprisingly heavy. Remember, there are only two people who can be trusted to deliver a specialty cake: the one who made it and the one who paid for it!
DO you make FAKE TIERS/CAKES?
Yes...and no. We want to have both creative control and control over ingredients. The thing is, taste is really important to us so we only provide faux (fake) tiers with actual cake. Here are 2 scenarios:
Scenario 1: You want to use one of our cakes for display but serve a wedding cake purchased somewhere else. Unfortunately, we don't want our name associated with a cake someone else made. Our hard-earned reputation is on the line! In this case we won't create a faux cake.
Scenario 2: You want a 5 tier cake but only have 65 guests. For 65 guests you would need a 2 tier cake, but your dream wedding cake has 5 tiers! We are happy to make the necessary tiers to feed your 65 guests and provide as many faux tiers as required to create the wedding cake of your dreams.
Cakes in general should not be refrigerated as they will sweat, the colours can run and sugar flowers and any fondant decorations will wilt. Ideally, the cake should be kept in an air-conditioned room before and, if possible, during the event. Cakes can be refrigerated after cutting or freezed (wrapped up tightly) to preserve.
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY CAKE?
All deposits (which is 50% of the total cost) are forfeited if an order is cancelled.
No refund is provided if order is cancelled within five (5) business days of the event.
If total order is paid and Cakes by Renee is notified more than 7 days prior to the event, then 50% of the total cost is refunded (the other 50%, being your deposit, is forfeited).
